Creating a Blog People Want to Read- Part II
Last time I mentioned this topic I spoke about the kinds of things you could blog about. Niches, hobbies, crafts, loves are all great ideas for blog posts. But what about the bulk of your blog? If your blog is not designed properly the people who want to read it simply can’t.
Does your blog have an easy to read color scheme? Are your widgets & ads all over the place or in one side bar? Do you have a search function/bar so surfers can find the specific content they crave? Do you have a news section for your returning readers? Is everything easy to find?
These are just some of the questions you should ask yourself when designing your site. Your favorite color combination might be deep red and black, but who can really read those two together? You must remember to sacrifice some of your design dreams to make your content easier to access. This sounds sucky, but think about the big picture! Wouldn’t you rather have people read your posts OR use that banner with the “f” word?
I’m not saying you should pick a layout that is totally opposite from you just so you appeal to more people. What I am saying is that an open, easy blog is going to lead to open, easy readers. If your people aren’t being assaulted by ads or figuring out HTML to find your posts, they will love you for it & return!
